Sunday, 6th March 2005, this is the date that you can’t forget. Starting from a first track of running, the race continues on a mountainbike and then all the way down to the to finish line cross country skiing. This is the sequence of the first edition of Sappada Winter Triathlon, the winter version of the multidisciplinary sport, with a big seasonal difference, as a matter of fact instead of swimming all competitors will have to challenge on a pair of skiis, of nordic skiis. The strongest and toughest athletes are expected to come in Plodn, the Italian resort known also as Sappada.
RACE: GENERAL RULES
Sappada Winter Triathlon track has been defined according to ITU rules, the international triathlon Federation. The first running fraction will be coverd for 3 km on a snow circuit to be repeated three times. Once the athletes will have concluded this track, will enter the change area to jump on their mountain bike, covering a ring of 4 km on a mixed groud to be repeated three times. Finally after another area change will wear their cross country skiis to finish a 3,3 km circuit track (also to be repeated three times). Three tracks and three sports to compete in one race without stopping the chronometers till the end.
ORGANIZING COMMITEE
A special commitee has made a deal to organize an incredibile event: Friesian Team, specialized in the organization of duathlon and triathlon events, and Camosci Sport Association in Sappada, a strong team that can count on great champions between their athletes, such as crosscountry skiers Silvio Fauner and Pietro Piller Cottrer. All tourist info and accomodation is cured by Comelico-Sappada Tourist Board.
PROMOTIONAL AND TEAM RELAY
Everyone can take part to the Sappada Winter Triathlon. If you are a biker, a runner or a cross country skier and wish to challange yourself into a winter triathlon race, the organizing committe has chosen a Promotional formula, you simply need a medical certificate to participate and try your own race or can choose the Team Relay formula, which means you can have two partners, that will change, one for each fraction.
START-NUMBERS & PRIZE MONEY
Start-numbers will be assigned on Saturday afternoon from 16:00 to 19:00 and again on Sunday morning from 8:00 till 9:30. According to the programm, Elite and Team Realy races start at 10:00 and the promotional race at 11:00. The day continues after the races thanks to a special pasta party and the prize ceremony at 14:30.
Prize money for top 10 men an top 6 women in the elite category and special typical products for many other athletes, make a total amount of 3.000 Euro.
“ALPI WINTER TRIATHLON” COMBINED
Two winter triathlon competitions have decided to strenghten their efforts, offering another chance to challange to all multisport athletes in a new Alpine combined event: Winter Triathlon Alta Valle Gran San Bernardo of the 20th February and Sappada Winter Triathlon of the 6th March 2005. Two international events at their ”debut” that decide to enrich the winter offer.
